Orthodontic care for Vista families

Would our Carlsbad office suit your family in Vista? That depends on the doctor you’d see there. Dr. Cameron Hulse is a specialist orthodontist: he earned his DDS at the University of Southern California, then completed a residency in orthodontics at Jacksonville University, and he has treated patients in Carlsbad since 2007. He is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists and the Pacific Coast Society of Orthodontists.

Patients have given us a 5.0 rating across 805 Google reviews as of September 2026.

Does living in Vista change anything about your care? No. You’ll see the same doctor and get the same first exam as a family from two streets away. The only thing that changes is the drive, and if you’d like an early slot, the doors open at 8 AM Monday through Thursday.

What makes the trip worth it

Making two trips for one decision is what makes an out-of-town orthodontist feel like a chore. You can do it in one.

A free first visit and the option to start the same day

Your first consultation is free. What does free include?

  • An exam with Dr. Hulse
  • Digital x-rays and photos
  • A treatment plan, if you need one
  • A cost estimate for your own case
  • Insurance verification

The photos and x-rays are taken to determine whether treatment is necessary at all. Plan for about 1 hour. If treatment is recommended and you’re ready, block another 40 minutes and you can start braces or Invisalign that same day. If starting the same day doesn’t suit you, we’ll schedule a morning appointment shortly after your consultation instead.

Wait times here are low to nonexistent, so your appointment runs smoothly and you’re back on the road. Your new-patient forms are online too, so you can fill them in at home before you leave Vista.

What we treat

What would you be coming in for? Braces, clear braces or Invisalign, followed by a retainer once treatment ends.

Braces, clear braces and Invisalign

  • Braces. Metal braces for children, teens and adults. You pick your elastic colors when the braces go on.
  • Clear ceramic braces (3M Clarity). A nearly invisible alternative to traditional metal braces for anyone who would rather their braces be less noticeable.
  • Invisalign and Invisalign Teen. Removable clear aligners, with a plan Dr. Hulse programs himself. Complex bite corrections or severe crowding may be better treated with braces, and he’ll say so at your exam.
  • Retainers. Removable retainers and fixed (bonded) retainers, provided when treatment ends, plus replacements for a fee if one is lost or broken.

How young is too young? There is no exact age, but the American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic visit by age 7, and that check is free here. By that age most children have a mix of baby teeth and adult teeth, which makes it a good time for Dr. Hulse to check for tooth or jaw problems.

Too old? It’s never too late. Adults are treated here too, in individual treatment rooms, and there is no “premium” fee for adults. Which option suits you is decided at your exam.

Booking from Vista

Not sure you need an orthodontist yet? You can start from home.

How to start

  1. Step 1Text 6 photos. Send 6 photos of your teeth to (760) 448-1344 and Dr. Hulse will reply with a free Virtual Smile Assessment. It's a way to find out whether braces may be right for you.
  2. Step 2Call or text to book. Same number, (760) 448-1344. Ask for the time of day that suits you.
  3. Step 3Book online. Fill in the short form to book a consultation and we'll get you scheduled.

What should you bring? Your insurance details, if you have a plan, because benefits are verified at the first visit. Bring your questions as well. Expect to be asked about your interests and activities, not just your teeth. Your treatment plan is built for your own smile, so you’ll be asked what matters to you before anything is decided. You’ll also be shown around the practice, so you know where you’ll be coming back to.

Where to look next

Want to read more before you call? Our Carlsbad orthodontic office page goes deeper on the practice itself: what treatment costs, the age 7 check, directions and office hours. The braces page walks through treatment in 4 steps, from the first consultation to the day the braces come off, and the Invisalign page explains how the aligners work and who they suit. If you’d rather see every option in one place first, start with all treatment options. Whichever page you read first, the next step is the same: a consultation at the Carlsbad office, booked by call, text or the online form.

Before you book from Vista

How far is your office from Vista?

Our office is at 6405 El Camino Real, Carlsbad, CA 92009, and it is our only location. Put that address into your maps app and it will give you the time from your own door.

Do you treat patients who live in Vista?

Yes. Vista is one of the cities we serve from the Carlsbad office, along with Oceanside, Encinitas and San Marcos. Call or text (760) 448-1344 to book.

Is the first visit really free?

Yes. It includes an exam with Dr. Hulse, digital x-rays and photos, a treatment plan if you need one, a cost estimate and insurance verification. Plan for about 1 hour, or 40 minutes more if you decide to start treatment the same day. Nothing is owed for finding out.

Do you offer Invisalign as well as braces?

Yes. Metal braces, clear ceramic braces, Invisalign and Invisalign Teen are all offered at the Carlsbad office. Which one suits your teeth is decided at the consultation, and Dr. Hulse programs each Invisalign plan himself.

Can my child and I be seen on the same trip?

Ask when you book whether back-to-back appointments are possible. Dr. Hulse treats children, teens and adults. Call or text (760) 448-1344.

This page is general information about orthodontic care, not dental or medical advice, and reading it doesn't create a patient relationship with Hulse Orthodontics. Results vary, and only an in-person exam can tell whether a treatment suits you. No cost can be quoted before a new-patient exam. For advice about your own teeth, talk to Dr. Cameron Hulse, DDS, or another qualified orthodontist.
